I've always wanted to have a Teru Teru Bozu Doll# (晴天娃娃) to hang at my window, but cant seem to find any selling outside...
#Abstracted paragraph of Teru Teru Bozu description from Wiki:
Teru Teru Bozu Doll is a little traditional hand-made doll made of white paper or cloth that Japanese farmers began hanging outside of their window by a string. This amulet is supposed to have magical powers to bring good weather and to stop or prevent a rainy day. "Teru" is a Japanese verb which describes sunshine, and a "bōzu" is a Buddhist monk (compare the word bonze), or in modern slang, "bald-headed."
Even my pet in the "Pets Society" has one hanging him his room...
So i decided to make one on my own!!
It is really simple and cheap to make!
First, get these ready!!
- An old white tee. You can use coloured ones too.
- Cotton. I'm took some facial cottons.
- Craft eyes. They come in assorted sizes and mine is the button type which i can sew to the doll. U can also use hot glue to stick onto the doll if you have the normal type.
- Thread and needle for sewing / Hot Glue
- Strings/ Rope. You can use any colour, any texture/types of strings/rope.
- Not Compulsory: Some bright coloured cloths/sequins/decorative ornaments for decorating purpose.
- A pair of scissors and a marker
Step 1: Cut the old tee into a square shape. i did mine at roughly of size 30cm by 30cm.
Step 2: Fluff up the cotton!
Step 3: Roll the cotton into a ball and place at the center of the cloth.Step 4: Wrap up the cotton ball and twist the cloth so that you get a reasonable round shape for the head.
Step 5: Cut a length of the string. (about 50 cm) Then tie the string ends together with a dead knot.
Step 6: Put the string over the neck of the doll, twist a few rounds, (NOW IT'S UR CHANCE TO STRANGLE SOMEBODY) and tighten the string.
Then, make another knot.
Step 7: Sew/Glue on the craft eyes..
U can also make a hat/scarf/hair etc for it too. Decorate at your own likings!
Tip: The head of my doll is quite heavy, and it will kind of droop it's head when i hang it. So i've sewn part of the string to its head to gain support..
